HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR SESSION:

Your first session will include a consultation to learn about your current health, your medical history and your goals.  For your convenience, most all necessary forms are sent directly thru email. Please complete them before your your appointment; including a short health questionnaire for everyone’s safety.

If you have health insurance benefits that may include acupuncture, please call or provide that information before your first session, so that our billing department can verify your insurance benefits and we can discuss what may be covered under your policy.

Remember to have something to eat approximately one hour before your appointment. You will reap more benefits from your treatment if you have something to eat. Your body will need fuel to receive the acupuncture treatment and to heal.

Wear loose fitting, comfortable clothing that can be easily rolled up above your elbows and knees. Some people like to bring a pair of shorts to change into. However, if you aren’t able to do either, please know that we have plenty of sheets and will keep you appropriately draped and comfortable.

DURING YOUR ACUPUNCTURE SESSION:

The strength and beauty of East Asian Medicine is that we consider the whole person. Relying on a variety of sensory diagnostics, including looking at your tongue, taking your pulse, Japanese abdominal diagnosis, lifestyle, dietary habits, and stress levels. These information gives your practitioner a better picture of your state of health, digestion, and energy levels before each treatment and track your progress. Your session is individually customized for you and treatments may vary from session to session, depending on what the focus is.

WHAT TO DO AFTER YOUR SESSION?

Following your treatment, some describe a feeling of "energy movement", changes in energy levels, and more commonly better sleep. In rare cases, patients form a small hematoma (bruise) at certain needle insertion sites, or a small blister from moxibustion; both harmless and normal. Allow yourself some time after your session to rest or relax, do not plan for any strenuous activity right afterwards. If you were prescribed herbs, remember to take them as advised.  Take notice of how you feel after treatment and give feedback.

Japanese abdominal diagnosis is used to give the best treatment for each patient. While laying comfortably on the treatment table, you will be able to give feedback and feel changes in real time. This allows for a painless and more precise treatment, giving more insight in to the root cause of your ailments. Patients often become more aware and  proficient at noticing changes and when things feel off. Within a visit or two, you may notice your body relax quickly while on the treatment table and things are more likely to shift. Patients report looking forward to their acupuncture sessions because of this and is one of the many benefits of receiving acupuncture on a regular basis.

WHAT'S NEXT?

Schedule your next visit before you leave and discuss any questions you may have.   When you are first starting acupuncture for a chronic issue, consecutive treatments are the most effective way to have long lasting changes.  The first few visits should be relatively close together, about once a week. 4 to 6 weekly treatments are usually the best and then we can re-evaluate from there and less frequent visits may be recommended as your condition improves.

Keep it Simple

Many patients continue on with their Acupuncture care with Monthly or seasonal-care treatments. These sessions can be a great addition as a preventative for your health, addressing changes and aches and pains before they become problematic.

Patients benefit the most by receiving several consecutive sessions, especially for chronic conditions. Similar to starting a new exercise or training, the body requires some time to create new muscle/cell memory to get on track.  Your session includes what the practitioner deems most effective for your treatment session.  Please discuss any concerns you may have prior to treatment.
